Maya Handbags and Purses
Fashion jewelry, belts and handbags ...Not for the faint of heart! Maya features three new seasonal collections a year. The designs are known for the unusual dramatic play of elements... from dazzling natural semi-precious stones, to earthy sculptural resin to the glamour of brilliant crystal... Maya exudes the poetry, passion and art of life!
Maya was begun in 1985 by a dynamic mother / daughter duo. Although begun as a hobby they were forced into "business" with sales of their designs quickly moving to the wholesale realm. Traipsing around New York and Paris' finest shops, flea markets and art shows... soaking in the spirit of theater and dance... Veni and Maya weave their fondness of eclectic things into their vibrant collections.
Maya designs in the 1980's were more a blend of metallics and crystals looks and themes were contemporary. However, as the 1990's saw trends become more ethnic and "earthy", Maya and Veni turned to their native Philippines for exotic materials and there discovered an abundance of talented artisans, sculptors, weavers,... With resin becoming a favorite and focal material for their collections, Veni began to experiment with the artisans on infusing indigenous materials (shells, tree bark, leaves) into the man-made resin. With the pliable nature of resin, further amazing treatments were discovered by Veni and Maya... regal textures of animal and reptilian finishes, antique bone, fancy lace effects.
Maya pieces are collected and worn as "wearable art". The outstanding sculptural resin handbag collections are renowned for their bold chic and artistic, eclectic appeal. Inspiration is drawn from the primitive to even the elaborate, romantic details of Byzantine or Victorian eras. Maya bags often have a "dug from the earth" feel. And these designs are infused with the richest of materials from the U.S., Europe and Asia.
Maya can be found in upscale boutiques, galleries and fine international shops. Every year Sue Wong features Maya in her Beverly Hills runway shows.
